In a perfect world, the dressage test would be only about you, your horse, and the judge. No distractions, no nerves. Just you and your horse, showing your true talent. In this ideal situation, testing could be done when the timing was right for the horse, without the stress and expense of traveling long distances, and one would be allowed a second chance for mistakes made by the horse or rider.
